Code of conduct
How we chase
Read this before joining a chase, posting a report, or commenting on a thread. Coordinators may revoke membership for repeat or serious breaches.
In the field
Safety first
You drive home. No structure, no shot, no report is worth getting yourself or someone else killed. Stay back from cores, watch your escape routes, never park on a live carriageway.
Public second
We are guests in every village we drive through. Don't block farm gates, don't cross fences, give right of way to ops vehicles, leave less litter than you found.
The chase third
Forecasting and positioning is craft, not race. If a member is on a feature first, you don't crowd them. The map is big.
Don't obstruct ops
If you encounter MetOffice, Mountain Rescue, RNLI, RAYNET or emergency services in the field, you give them space and you help if asked. You never document them in a way that hinders their work.
Stay out of cordons
Police, fire and HSE cordons are absolute. We do not enter damage paths during active operations. Document from a safe stand-off, identify yourself if challenged, leave when asked.
On this site
Reports are honest
Report what you saw, where you saw it, when. Estimate severity conservatively. If you didn't see it directly, say so. Reports are matched against MetOffice warnings — false reports waste verification effort.
No staged or AI photos
Reports + post media are first-hand only. No generative imagery, no doctored timestamps, no "found on Twitter" without attribution. If you didn't take it, link to the source.
Discussion stays civil
Disagree with a forecast, a target, or a report — fine, that's how we get better. Personal attacks, harassment, racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia: not fine. Coordinators will hide and warn; admins will revoke.
Operational data stays internal
Vehicle, comms and position data shared in the back-office stays in the back-office. Don't screenshot member profiles for off-site discussion.
Membership
Probation
Pending status while a coordinator reviews. We may ask for a short note about your chasing experience. Approval is usually within a week.
Inactive accounts
We don't prune accounts on inactivity. Member status stays with you across seasons.
Leaving
You can switch your profile to private any time from your profile — you disappear from the directory and the leaderboard. Email us from a coordinator if you want a hard delete.
